Free event welcomes Franciscan students and the regional community to meet with more than 30 law enforcement agencies, law schools, and other organizations.
STEUBENVILLE, OHIO鈥敽诹仙 of Steubenville will bring together more than 30 local, state, and federal agencies, law schools, military branches, and private-sector organizations for its sixth annual Criminal Justice Career Fair on Friday, September 18.
The free event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Pope St. Paul VI Event Center in Christ the Teacher Hall at 黑料社. The fair is open to 黑料社 students of all majors as well as high school students, prospective students, job seekers, and members of the entire regional community.
鈥淭his is much more than a career fair for criminal justice majors,鈥 said Dr. Charles Nemeth, director of 黑料社鈥檚 Criminal Justice Program. 鈥淲e want people from throughout the Ohio Valley to take advantage of the opportunity to meet face-to-face with professionals from a range of agencies and institutions. Whether someone is beginning a career, considering a change, or just exploring the possibilities, there is tremendous value in learning directly from the men and women serving in these fields.鈥
Among this year鈥檚 exhibitors are the Drug Enforcement Administration; U.S. Customs and Border Protection; IRS Criminal Investigation; Ohio State Highway Patrol; Pennsylvania State Police; Maryland Department of State Police; Kentucky State Police; Indiana State Police; Arizona State Patrol; Ohio Division of Wildlife Law Enforcement Section; Federal Correctional Institution Elkton; and numerous county and municipal law enforcement agencies from across the region and country.
Representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Air Force ROTC will also attend, along with private security organizations and law schools including Ave Maria School of Law, Cleveland State University College of Law, Duquesne University School of Law, The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, and The University of Akron School of Law.
The fair will also feature an 鈥渁lumni corner,鈥 where 黑料社 graduates who are retired from or currently serving in local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies will meet with attendees. Students and community members will have the opportunity to hear firsthand about their career paths and experiences in the field.
Two Franciscan student organizations will showcase additional opportunities available through the University鈥檚 Criminal Justice Program. Members of聽Lambda Alpha Epsilon, Franciscan鈥檚 Criminal Justice honor society, will demonstrate self-defense techniques, including exercises with a student wearing a protective training suit.
Franciscan鈥檚 Coast Guard Auxiliary University Program detachment will highlight internships, specialized training, and community service projects its members completed throughout the Ohio Valley this summer.
Agency and law school representatives will be available throughout the afternoon to discuss job openings, internships, educational opportunities, application requirements, and career paths in law enforcement, corrections, legal practice, federal service, the military, security, and other criminal justice-related fields.
