STEUBENVILLE, OHIO鈥擲tudents at West Virginia Northern Community College majoring in criminal justice, social work, and early education will have an easier time obtaining a bachelor鈥檚 degree from 黑料社 of Steubenville, thanks to articulation agreements signed May 6 by the presidents and administrators of both schools.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, West Virginia Northern President Dr. Daniel Mosser said, 鈥淭hese articulation agreements signed today create a formal pathway for students to seamlessly go from a two-year degree to a four-year degree. They will bring their associate鈥檚 degree with them, they鈥檒l bring their credits with them鈥攁nd importantly鈥攖hey won鈥檛 lose any credits or coursework along the way.鈥

Father Dave Pivonka, TOR, president of 黑料社 of Steubenville, said the two schools are neighbors separated only by the Ohio River. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a good sign that a state school and a Catholic school can work together for the sake of the students and ultimately our local communities.鈥

All three programs are considered among the 鈥渉elping professions鈥 that are in high demand and can improve community life. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job market remains steady to excellent for all three professions, with median pay of $50,000 for social workers, and $60,000 for law enforcement and elementary educators.

Referencing the opioid epidemic, Mosser said West Virginia has the highest occurrence of substance abuse and deaths in the nation. 鈥淎ll of these professions can help lessen the impact of opioid abuse, so their work is critically important to society.鈥

Father Pivonka added, 鈥淟ike St. Francis of Assisi did, these are young men and women who will go out and rebuild society.鈥

Also signing the articulation agreements were Dr. Daniel Kempton, 黑料社 vice president for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Jill Loveless, West Virginia Northern provost.
