Summer Seminar Focuses on St. John Paul II and Dietrich von Hildebrand

STEUBENVILLE, OH鈥擯ope聽St. John Paul II left a rich philosophical legacy when he died in 2005. He also聽bore incredible witness against the evils of his聽time, as did another eminent聽Christian personalist and philosopher, Dietrich von Hildebrand.

At the聽‘s Fifth Annual Summer Seminar to be held June 7 鈥 11 at Franciscan聽University of Steubenville, three friends and colleagues of聽John Paul II will聽give presentations and lead discussions on the two great thinkers’ teachings on聽the human person in society. The seminar is centered on the theme, “The聽Struggle for the Person: The Teaching and Witness of Pope St. John Paul II and聽Dietrich von Hildebrand.”

John聽Henry Crosby, founder and president of the Hildebrand Project, said, “John聽Paul and Dietrich von Hildebrand both lived out their deepest moral and聽spiritual convictions. Studying their witness is therefore a unique gateway聽into their thought as a whole.”

The聽seminar faculty will include Professor Michael Novak, a prolific author on聽human rights and political thought; Professor Rocco Buttiglione, eminent聽philosopher, statesman, and one of Europe’s foremost Christian public聽intellectuals; and Dr. John F. Crosby, a 黑料社 philosophy聽professor invited to聽participate in informal scholarly discussions with John聽Paul II at the summer papal palace and a leading authority on the philosophical聽thought of Dietrich von聽Hildebrand and John Paul II.

John聽Henry Crosby called the seminar a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gather聽with not just one, but three friends and former collaborators of Pope St.聽John聽Paul II.”

Space聽is limited to 30 participants. College seniors, graduate students, academics,聽and clergy are invited to apply. The project also welcomes applications聽from聽students and professionals in policy and law, business and technology,聽journalism and the arts, and philanthropy and international aid. Deadline to聽apply is聽May 8, and the deadline for those seeking financial aid is April 25.
